How To Lead Your Small Group or Church Toward True Missional Living

In this episode of Ask Caesar #7, Chris asks the question: “How do I begin to lead my Small Group or church toward true missional living? I want our folks to really live an authentic ‘everyday faith’ in community with others. How do we begin?”

Thanks for asking Chris, I have been EXACTLY where you’re at, and it can seem daunting to say the least!

My wife and I stumbled around this stuff for years too, but now, after living this way, and training others around the world, we’ve found that there are some foundational steps that absolutely cannot be missed.  (more…)

Gospel Tipping: Why Overtipping Should Be Our Norm

Is it just me or does it seem that more and more people are expecting to be tipped for their services these days? And at increasing rates.

When my wife Tina and I lived in Manhattan we had to actually plan to have cash on us in small denominations at all times because it was such a tipping culture. Why do some people get tipped extra money for doing their jobs and others do not? And how should we respond to that? And what about people who kinda stink at their job, but expect to be tipped anyway?

Is The Church Guilty of False Advertising?

Why are so many people–more and more it seems–wanting little or nothing to do with a local church? And often just telling someone that you’re a Christian can be a deal-breaker. They seem to shy away or fear us.

How to Share Your Faith in a Non-creepy Way

If you’re like most people I know, you probably don’t share your faith all that often. It can feel creepy or just plain awkward, and there’s always that fear of rejection.

People say to me: “I think my friends may be more open to what I’m learning about God, but I really don’t know how to articulate what I believe...” OR “I rarely talk to friends or co-workers about my faith because I don’t want them to feel like I’m cramming it down their throats...” (Whatever that means?)

Here’s a cool way to share your faith that has never been weird or received poorly by others when I’ve done it like this.  (more…)

Is the Medium Really the Message?

I’ve been doing a little thinking about how most of the church in America, and often around the world, most commonly meets together. You know–at our Sunday services? Is the way we’re often “doing church” really communicating what we think it is, especially to visitors or folks just checking things out?

Is the form in which we receive a message as important as the message itself? (more…)

Discipleship: The One Person You Need to Worry About

When it comes to discipleship, one of the hardest things we often face is knowing who specifically we are supposed to be discipling. Is it one special person, or many?

When folks are forming discipleship relationships, and building healthy missional communities, on many occasions I’ve had people say to me,

I’m not this huge gatherer and people person. I’m not naturally wired to be the life of the party.”
