My Top 20 Missional Books List

Top 20 Books List ReadingHere is my suggested Top 20 Missional Books List…right now. By the way…I see everything as mission! I could have listed a lot more in each category, but these will keep you busy for a while. Some are classics; some are newer on my list.

I am not 100% in agreement with every word in every book. But I have found all of these to be informative, challenging and very helpful in causing me to think and consider new ways of “being” and living. These books are not all by Christian authors; don’t let that hinder your mining for gold here.

I have put these books under categories of life and growth that are important to me, and maybe you too. I try to read a new book in each category every year. (more…)

Enjoying Grandchildren: Amazing Jewels in Our Crowns

Proverbs 17:6 says, “Grandchildren are the crowning glory of the aged.” If you follow my blog or podcast, you may have already heard that last December Tina and I became grandparents for the first time. I’d like you to meet the first jewel in our grand-parenting crown.

This is our grandson, Patton Douglas Dillard. He’s the newest member of Team K, in the more recently established Dillard Division.

In so many ways we feel re-born and renewed by this amazing little man. It has been striking to us how much love one new life can bring into your heart and family. All of Team K is crazy in love with you buddy! (more…)

Life in a True Gospel-Centered Community: Kirstan’s Story

Life in a vibrant gospel-centered community –a missional community– is an amazing thing to experience. It’s something I believe we were all created to enjoy. But what does this really look like? How is it different than your current church or small group situation? Let me tell you a true story that will help illustrate the beauty of this.

A Broken Family

Good friends of mine, Greg and Mary, came to faith and become part of our community a few years back. They pretty immediately began to loop others into this life with us as they learned to live as full-time missionaries. One of the very first families that Greg and his wife Mary began to invite into their lives was a 16-year-old girl named Kirstan and her widowed mother, Julianna. They had a pretty rough story. Cubs’ World Series Win a Spiritual Experience?

My father and his father prayed for it often: “Please God, let the Chicago Cubs win the World Series…just this once!” But they never witnessed it in their lifetime. But I have. And so has my family.

And it was quite a spiritual experience!
